Oriental Medicine
Oriental medicine is a highly developed holistic medicine that addresses the causes of disease as well as providing relief from symptoms. The focus of Oriental Medicine is on encouraging the body to regulate itself by removing tension and blockages and ensuring the smooth flow of energy (or qi). Kristie uses a combination of shiatsu, Japanese needle therapy, moxibustion and other adjunct therapies to stimulate particular points on the body to promote healing. Diagnosis is made using pulse, tongue and abdominal palpation.
Oriental medicine can assist with a wide range of conditions including digestive problems, fatigue, gynaecological problems such as fibroids, PCOS and painful periods, headaches, anxiety and depression, hayfever, asthma, structural imbalances and musculo-skeletal pain. It is also excellent for pre- and post-natal support and for building immunity.
Kristie's training emphasises the importance of deep relaxation to the healing process, and her treatments are nourishing and relaxing as well as being clinically effective. Shiatsu is a beautiful form of relaxing bodywork that is safe and effective for everyone. When needling, Kristie uses extremely fine Japanese needles which are specifically designed to be shallowly inserted and largely painless. Magnets and other polarity devices can be used where needles are not appropriate. Moxibustion is extremely nourishing and effective for unblocking areas of tension, as are cupping and spooning. Kristie enjoys working with clients to establish treatment plans, and put in place simple dietary and lifestyle changes which can be extremely effective at supporting treatments.
Treatments
1 hour $75/65
1.5 hours $90/80
Health fund rebates apply. Kristie recommends an initial session of 1.5 hours to allow adequate time for consultation and diagnosis. It is helpful if you can wear loose comfortable clothing and not eat a large meal immediately before the session. Clients remain clothed, and treatments take place either on a table or on a futon on the floor.
